Gym Etiquette

Our gym has a great friendly atmosphere. Please help us ensure that everyone feels comfortable and follow these gym usage guidelines:

  • Use a sweat towel and wipe machines down after using them
  • Limit the use of cardio machines to 20 minutes at peak or busy times
  • No eating on the gym floor
  • No phones on the gym floor – please take mobile calls outside
  • No bags on the gym floor – please use the lockers provided
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear should be worn (no bare chests, jeans, sandals, open toed or high heeled shoes)

Please be considerate in your choice of language in the gym – refrain from swearing and using offensive language
Abusive and threatening behaviour towards staff or other members won’t be tolerated. If you are unhappy about anything, ask to speak to the manager on duty.

Instructors are there to help so ask them!

In additon to general gym etiquette, here are some simple rules for enjoying the free weight room:

  • Stack weights neatly after use - the number one violation of the free weights room is not putting your own weights away. If you violate the rule, expect a serious talking to!
  • Treat equipment with respect -Plates, barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells etc will be dropped from time to time. We encourage you to go heavier but don’t abuse it. If the weight is too heavy, go a little lighter.
  • All members are responsible for their own fitness, health and safety -our workouts are tough. The weight is heavy. If you need to pull back, or you aren’t comfortable, tell the trainer. This is being smart, not weak.
  • Go heavy or go home! - The only way to get stronger is to increase resistance (weight). At all times in the weights room, strive to put more weight on the barbell but don’t compromise on your technique. However, remember the previous two rules and stay safe.
  • Don’t expect immediate results - There is no shortcut to being strong or getting fit. Relish the work. Enjoy the sweat. Welcome the pain.

  • No steroids - It’s that simple – no steroids!!
  • Wear appropriate footwear and clothing - There’s no point working if you don’t have the right tools with you. That means no bags, coats, jackets, jeans, sandals, flip flops or shoes.
  • Food is not permitted - No eating in the free weights room (surely all that sweat would put you off your sandwich anyway?).
